October in the Bookstore

That’s a pretty lame title, and I hope you won’t hold it against me because –

Well, we have a LOT of stuff happening this month!

To start off, ALL week long we have 10% off local authors’ books – and that includes local publishers – AND you can register to win a Kobo E-reader. Just stop in today, tomorrow, or Saturday!

Speaking of Saturday, THAT is our big anniversary celebration! Yep, two years ago, October 1, 2011, Al Hrabosky and Tom Mee were there for our ribbon cutting. The eight weeks leading up to that, after we decided to open a bookstore, were pretty hectic but totally worth it!

So, anyway, on Saturday, noon to 4:00, we’re having refreshments, giveaways, and a drawing for that FREE Kobo – AND, we’re hosting the Deadly Duo with their two new books! Bill and Sharon Hopkins will be in town presenting River Mourn and Killertrust – you do NOT want to miss this!

We’re also having Liz Schulte in the store on October 12, and Jo Hiestand and Estelle Luttrell on October 19. Great authors, fantastic books!

Coming October 26, we’re having a Halloween party! But not just ANY Halloween party – Rocking Horse Publishing is launching a new book: Dickinstein. Food, fun, and absolute CROWDS are expected – live music, too, thanks to Davey Vaughn of This is Our Dance, an awesome local band!

Now that I’ve used up my allotment of exclamation marks for the foreseeable future, come take a look at our Facebook page and website and see everything we have to offer at All on the Same Page!

Just thought I’d drop a note here to let you all know what’s going on at the bookstore.

We offer a monthly marketing seminar on the first Monday, mostly for authors and their books, but a lot of it is applicable to any budding entrepreneur with a product. The cost is $25, we cover a lot of basic information; going into the fall and winter months, we’re going to expand the topic. Our next seminar will be September 9, due to the Labor Day holiday.

Topics may – depending on demand – include things like consignment, distribution, cover design, direct mail marketing, giveaways, reviews, publishing contracts, and others. Tell me what you’d like to see!

Second Tuesdays are for the little ones – storytime at 10:30 a.m. The kids pick books and we read to them for about an hour. Sometimes we add a new or interesting book from the shelf. We’re thinking of adding another day/time for this – any thoughts?

We also have a writers’ seminar on the first Wednesday of each month. Sounds fancy, but it isn’t. We usually have wine. We talk about everyone’s recent news and accomplishments, answer and ask questions, and often one or two writers will read a passage or a chapter and we’ll all give feedback. We’ll have anywhere from four to ten writers, although it’s usually around half a dozen. You should definitely come – you don’t have to be published or even have a WIP, just an interest.

On the third Thursday of each month, we host the St. Louis Writers’ Guild Author Series – a live interview where you can come and ask questions or Tweet them during the event. It starts at 7:00 p.m.

And of course, nearly every Saturday we host an author book event – meet a local author, pick up a signed copy of their newest books, schmooze and have a great time! Most of these are in the afternoon, starting at 1:00 p.m.

Now, let’s talk about product – naturally, we have books. Duh. We have some new overstocks, a lot of used books – paper and hardcover – and over 100 brand new books by local authors! Plus, we have booklights and pens, journals, and both framed and unframed gorgeous prints from two awesome local photographers.

But wait, there’s more! We also carry Baer’s Pure Products – organic, hand-made, all-natural soaps, lip balm, candles, lotion, etc., etc. Awesome stuff, all of it! And, starting this week, we’ll be carrying adorable dresses and hair accessories from Frilly Lilies, local and handmade. You’re going to love these!

Oh, and let’s not forget the COFFEE! Come in, grab a book and cup and sit down for a while to read or visit with us. Stay as long as you like!
